Cala Llombards: A Review of Mallorca’s Rugged Hidden Gem
The old fisherhouses of Cala s’Almonia
Mallorca is famed for its stunning coastline, with each beach offering something unique. But are these beaches really worth the hype, or should you stick to your hotel’s pool or private beach? In this series, I’ll share my honest experience exploring Mallorca’s top beaches during a girls’ trip with my mother and my 1-year-old toddler. From adventure-packed coves to serene white sand beaches, we’ll discover what makes each one special—and whether they’re truly family-friendly.

Cala Llombards
Tucked away in the southeastern corner of Mallorca, Cala Llombards is a gem that perfectly captures the island’s rugged beauty. With postcard-worthy fisherman’s houses, dramatic cliffs, and crystal-clear blue water, this beach is a must-see. While I’d give navigating the area a 0/10, the destination deserves a much better score—let me explain.

The hike to Cala Llombards
As we drove toward the beach, we knew in advance to park at the central parking lot (Yes, in 2024, you can still park for free here). Following the crowd seemed like the logical next step, so we crossed the street and began walking. Be prepared for about a half-hour walk on hot asphalt roads, with little to no shade.
The first access point is an entryway called ‘EnTrade al Caló de n’Adrover.’ We weren’t sure if this was the right spot, but with a toddler and buggy in tow (my daughter was refusing to be carried in a child-carrier), the road seemed a bit too adventurous for us. So, we continued walking along the asphalt road, which led to some stunning views.

The descent to Cala s’Almonia
Eventually, we reached what felt like the end of the road, where the path split into two: one leading down a cliff or a sharp right toward Cala s’Almonia. Before us stood a steep staircase, which we figured was the right way. We parked the buggy next to a small building by the stairs and began our descent. Carrying a toddler and a backpack, we already knew the climb back would be sweaty. The steps are steep, but fortunately, there’s a handrail for support.
As we reached the bottom, we were greeted by a beautiful scene—turquoise waters framed by rugged rocks. There’s no white sand beach or beach bar here, but the vibe is authentic. People were swimming, snorkeling, and even cliff-jumping, all while admiring the stunning views.

A family destination?
While there’s plenty of shade and gorgeous views at Cala Llombards, it may not be the ideal beach for families with small children seeking a relaxed afternoon. The beach consists entirely of rocky terrain, with no soft sand for kids to play in, making it less inviting for little ones looking to dig or build. Additionally, there are no easy access points to the water, and the rocky shoreline can make it tricky for young children to enter safely. With high cliffs surrounding the cove, the potential for high falls also poses a safety concern.
That said, the scenery is breathtaking, and our toddler seemed to enjoy the sights as much as we did, even if she couldn’t play freely…
We visited around midday, and while there were people, it wasn’t overwhelmingly crowded, allowing us to appreciate the surroundings. Although we didn’t stay for hours, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The review
Cala Llombards
For its stunning beauty and unique character, I would give this beach an 8 out of 10. Cala Llombards might just be one of the best spots to chill with friends—bring some beers and a game—or for a romantic outing with your boyfriend, as the views are simply mesmerizing.
